Tomasz Konior
architect, urban planner, founder, Konior Studio
Architect and urban planner. Graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University
of Technology. In 2019, he defended his doctoral thesis entitled. ‘Evolution of public space in buildings for music’. Since 1995, he has been running his own architectural office, Konior Studio.
He is the author of more than 200 buildings, mainly public buildings. He has won particular acclaim for his buildings for music, including the ‘Symphony’ Centre for Science and Music Education
in Katowice, the headquarters of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice with
a large concert hall recognised by the ECHO organisation as one of the best in Europe, the Music School Complex in Warsaw, and the Philharmonic Hall in Brno.
He is currently designing the New Campus of the Academy of Music in Krakow after winning a competition in 2021. His most recent award-winning project is the new reading rooms of the National Library in Warsaw, which received, among others, the Grand Prix in the competition for the Architectural Award of the Mayor of Warsaw and a nomination for the European architectural award Mies Van der Rohe. Tomasz Konior has received more than 80 architectural and individual awards. The most important awards include: Leonardo Award (2007), International Union of Architects Award (2008) SARP Award of the Year (2008), Zygmunt Majerski Medal (2010), Gloria Artis Silver Medal for Merit to Culture (2014), Iconic Awards, IDA Awards, A' Design Award (2021).He is a member of the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland and the Association of Polish Architects SARP.
During the 2012-2015 term, he served as Chairman of the Coordination Team of Competition Judges at the SARP General Board. He is a co-founder of the Institute of the Contemporary City.
He is involved in social initiatives for environmental protection (LIBRA Association) and music promotion (Katowice Natura Culture Association). Passionate about the city and classical music. A cat lover.
