Piotr Litwa
President of the State Mining Authority
Piotr Litwa graduated in mining and geology from the Silesian University of Technology. He completed postgraduate studies in legal problems of mining. He holds a doctoral degree from the Faculty of Mining at the AGH University of Science and Technology.
From 1988 he was a mining officer at the PRG mining company. From 1992, he was employed at the District Mining Office (OUG) in Katowice. In 1995, he began working at the State Mining Authority (WUG). Then, he consecutively became the director of the OUG in Bytom and in Gliwice. From 2005 to 2008, he was the WUG’s vice-president and from 2008 – the President. From 2014 to 2015, he held the office of Silesian Voivode. In years 2018–19, he held positions of prorector and rector at the University of Technology in Katowice. Subsequently, he worked as a research and technical specialist at the Central Mining Institute. In 2024, he was reappointed as the President of the WUG. He is a member of two mining commissions at the Polish Academy of Sciences.
