Paweł Swianiewicz
Director, National Institute of Local Government
Paweł Swianiewicz – since 1 July 2024 director of the National Institute for Local Governments. Professor at Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences. Until end of 2021 professor at University of Warsaw, in 2019-2020 he was the head of the Doctoral School of Social Sciences at University of Warsaw. Between 2005 and 2010 - President of the European Urban Research Association (EURA). Between 2018 and 2024 - member of the Steering Committee of the Standing Group on Local Government and Politics of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR). His research focuses on policies of decentralization and local autonomy, local politics, local government finance and territorial administrative reforms both in Poland, but also in other countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Expert of Council of Europe on decentralization and local democracy, author of several policy recommendation reports related to decentralization in various countries of Central and Eastern Europe including Albania, Armenia, Georgia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovakia, Ukraine.
