Alicja Krzemień, Ph.D., Professor at GIG-PIB
deals with the issues of safe closure of hard coal mines and the environmental risks associated with it, the directions of management of the infrastructure of decommissioned mines and post-mining areas towards the use of green energy, the reclamation of degraded and transformed ecosystems in mining areas, the safety of green hydrogen production from mine water, as well as the development of risk assessment methods for the mining sector, i.e. the methane risk assessment method, the roof fall risk assessment in longwalls, the coal dust explosion risk assessment method aimed at improving occupational safety. Head of the Laboratory of Risk Assessment and Industrial Safety at GIG-PIB, in the Department of Exploitation Technology, Rockbursts and Risk Assessment, a member of the Scientific Council of GIG-PIB and the Institute of Rock Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Alicja Krzemień is a member of the Coal Advisory Group of the European Commission, President and Chairwoman of the Technical Research Committee of EURACOAL, and Head of the Task Force for the Safe Operations and Closure of Coal Mines of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). She is also an expert and project evaluator in the European Horizon Programme in the field of climate action, environment and resource efficiency.
