Sanjay joined the group in December 2003 as the director sales & marketing of Mittal Steel Galati, Romania. In July 2005 Sanjay was appointed director sales & marketing and member of the Board of Mittal Steel, Poland.

Following the merger of Mittal Steel and Arcelor, he was promoted to the position of Vice President and chief marketing officer of Eastern Europe in December 2006 responsible for sales in Romania, Cech Republic and Poland. Sanjay moved to the Czech Republic in March 2008, to assume the role of chief executive officer & Chairman of the Board of ArcelorMittal Ostrava. From 2009 till 2012 Sanjay was chief executive officer & Chairman of the Board of ArcelorMittal Poland, with additional responsibility as chief executive officer of Flat Carbon Europe business division East - covering the operations in Poland, as well as in Eisenhüttenstadt in Germany. From October 2011 to January 2019, he held the role of chief executive officer of the business division East, covering the operations in Poland, Ostrava, Galati and Eisenhüttenstadt, with additional responsibility as country head Poland, in charge of government affairs. From February 2019 he was appointed head of human resources and IS/IT of Flat Products Europe, with additional responsibilities for the European shared service center and country head of Poland. In October 2020, his role was further extended to chairman and chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal Poland. From April, 2022 Sanjay is appointed chief executive officer ArcelorMittal Europe Long Products while he continues his role as chairman of ArcelorMittal Poland.
