Małgorzata Surdek-Janicka is an internationally recognised arbitrator, founder of SURDEK ARBITRATION and Vice-President of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris. She is also Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London and Member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR.

Before establishing her own independent practice in autumn 2022, Małgorzata was a dispute resolution partner at CMS with 25 years of experience in the field, and member of its global International Arbitration Group and Insurance & Reinsurance Group. She has 10 years of experience as member of the global Board of CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP in London representing overseas offices.

Currently she sits as arbitrator in infrastructure and construction, post-M&A and commercial disputes in the energy, mining, transportation, banking, insurance & reinsurance, technology, retail and manufacturing sectors under the ICC, DIAC, SCC, VIAC, UNCITRAL, LCIA, FCC, PCC and Lewiatan arbitration rules. She represented parties in investment arbitrations (most recently as lead counsel in the mining industry under the Canada-Poland Bilateral Investment Treaty).

In 2021 Forbes Women Poland honoured Małgorzata’s position in the business world and included her in its list of 25 Top Female Business Lawyers and a list of 100 Women of Year 2021. Małgorzata has been recognized by Who is Who Legal, Chambers and Legal 500 as a most-in-demand arbitrator and in the dispute resolution (Hall of Fame) and insurance categories (Leading Individual). Parties and peers consider her “one of the best international arbitration specialists, highly competent and professional when conducting proceedings”, “a class-act” with “breadth of experience and her own style”.
