Demography: economy and society
MORE SPEAKERSGrażyna Trzpiot is a professor of economic sciences and the head of the Department of Demography and Economic Statistics at the University of Economics in Katowice. She conducts research in developing methodologies for data analysis, big data, and multidimensional data sets. Her research areas include risk theories and analysis, risk measurement, and the analysis of consequences of risk occurrence. In recent years, she has focused mainly on demographic processes and risks, along with risk theory in investment analysis, especially long-term investments. She has presented the results of her research on demographic risks at international congresses of the International Statistical Institute. She is the author of 4 and co-author of 8 scientific monographs, co-author of 18 academic textbooks, author of over 200 scientific articles, and editor of 7 scientific works published nationally and internationally.
Her commitment to fostering academic discourse is evident in initiating the scientific conference "Statistics for Innovation: Data Visualization and Risk Analysis" organized at the University of Economics in Katowice.
In 2020, she co-wrote with J. Majewska the monograph Longevity – Modeling and Risk Analysis (Publishing House of the University of Economics in Katowice), and then in 2022 wrote the monograph Longevity Dividend – Analyses and Forecasts (Publishing House of the University of Economics in Katowice). She is a co-author of the book Quality of Life in the City. Interdisciplinary Perspectives (ed. Jacek Szołtysek, CeDeWu Publishing House, 2018). In 2019, together with J. Szołtysek, she published the monograph Senior-Friendly Cities (Publishing House of the University of Economics in Katowice). In 2021, together with the aforementioned author, she published the book Post-pandemic Cities – Threats and Opportunities. Her latest research was included in the monograph Threatened Future of Cities – Environmental and Demographic Aspects, published in 2023.
Among her most important research and development works is her participation in Poland-Canada projects under the agreement on scientific cooperation. She also served as the head of scientific projects and coordinator of international projects under Norwegian and EEA funds.
She is a member of the Committee on Statistics and Econometrics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Scientific Council of the Central Statistical Office. In previous years, she was a member of the Committee on Demographic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. For the third term, she has been elected vice-president of the Polish Statistical Association. She represents the PSA on the Federation of National Statistical Societies (FENStat) and the European Courses in Advanced Statistics (ECAS) board.
