Professor of technical sciences, for over 30 years associated with the hard coal mining industry. Graduated from the Faculty of Mining and Geology of the Silesian University of Technology. He has worked at the Central Mining Institute since 1991, where he holds the position of Director since 2015. A recognized expert in the discipline of mining and engineering geology. In his scientific and research activities, he deals with the issues of underground mining of hard coal seams. He published the results of his research in several original and co-authored monographs and about 200 publications in recognized national and foreign journals. Among others, he is a member of the: Coal Advisory Group operating within European Commission Expert Groups, the Organizing Committee of the World Mining Congress and the Chairman of the Association of the Polish Committee of this organization, as well as a member of the Presidium of the Mining Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Mining Commission at the Katowice Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Prof. Prusek serves as Vice-Chairman of the Commission for Hazards in Mining Plants in the field of excavation roof supports and caving hazards operating at the State Mining Authority (WUG).
