Institute of Economic Development, Rector 1999-2002, 2002-2005 and 2016-2020, Warsaw School of Economics
He worked at the Union of the Brewing Industry, the Institute of Economics and Organization of the Machine Industry, and the Central Planning Office. He has been associated with the Warsaw School of Economics since 1981: 1990 - 1992 Vice-Rector of the Warsaw School of Economics for didactic and educational matters and computerization, 1993 - 1996 Vice-Rector for Management, 1996 - 1999 Dean of the Diploma Studies, 1999-2005 for two terms of office Rector of the Warsaw School of Economics, 2005 - 2011 dean of the Collegium of Economic Analysis of the Warsaw School of Economics. In the years 2016 - 2020, again the rector of the Warsaw School of Economics.
From 2003 to 2016, he was the President of the Main Board of Academic Sport Association.
In 2005-2006 he was the chairman of the Civil Service Council.
In the years 2005 - 2019, senator of the Republic of Poland. In the years 2015-2019, he chaired the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and the European Union.
In the years 2005 - 2016 he was a member, and in the years 2008 - 2015 the Chairman of the Polish Accreditation Committee.
