MORE SPEAKERSBorys Budka graduated in 2002 with a degree in Law from the University of Silesia. He began his academic career as a lecturer at the Department of Law at the University of Economics in Katowice, where he later obtained a Ph.D. in Economics with a specialization in employment policy. Currently, he serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Energy Transformation at the same university.
His political career began in 2002 when he was elected as a city councillor in Zabrze. Over the years, he held various positions, including Deputy Mayor and Speaker of the City Council. In 2011, he was elected to the Polish Parliament and later served as Minister of Justice in the government of Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz.
Re-elected in 2015 and 2019, he played a key role in parliamentary commissions and held leadership roles within the Civic Platform (PO), becoming its Vice-Chairman and later Chair of the Civic Coalition Parliamentary Club. In 2020, he was elected as the Chairman of the Civic Platform but stepped down in 2021. In 2023, Polish Parliament elected him Minister of State Assets in Donald Tusk's third government.
In 2024, he was elected to the European Parliament, where he now chairs the Committee on Industry, Research, and Energy.
