Dr. Sylwia Słupik conducts research on the implementation of sustainable energy policy at the European and national level. Her research interests focus on issues related to renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy security. She is particularly interested in sustainable energy consumption, segmentation of consumer attitudes and behavior, behavioral economics as well as intelligent energy management systems. Furthermore, in her research she deals with education and raising the environmental awareness of energy recipients together with modeling and shaping consumption patterns, as well as building a civil society.
Author of over 80 scientific publications in the field of energy policy, energy liberalization, sustainable development of the energy market, sustainable energy consumption and pro-ecological corporate strategies. She cooperates with prestigious research centers in Poland and abroad, incl. Vrije Universiteit Brussel; University of Strathclyde, Glasgow; University College London.
She is a member of the Polish-German Scientific Network for Sustainable Development and the Polish Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, as well as the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. She regularly cooperates with the Silesian Water Cluster and the Silesian Ecological Cluster.
Team leader and researcher in the innovative project “Personalized ICT-tools for the Active Engagement of Consumers Towards Sustainable Energy. Eco-Bot ", implemented under the European Union's Horizon 2020 program in 2017-2021, in an international consortium in partnership with representatives of scientific and research centers, energy companies and consumer associations from Germany, Great Britain, Spain and Greece.
The project combines modern information technologies (Natural Language Processing), Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring and multi-dimensional behavioral modeling, which allowed to create an intelligent chat-bot - a virtual personalized assistant for effective energy management in enterprises and households.
Together with the project team, the author of a novel approach to segmentation of energy consumers and co-creator of individual guidelines and recommendations for individual segments, which is an innovative contribution to the use of ICT tools such as chat bots.
In addition, she is involved in local matters, cooperating with the business community and regional authorities, including the Regional Center for Social Policy of the Silesia Province , where she co-created the update of the Social Policy Strategy of the Silesia Province for the years 2006-2020. She constantly cooperates with the Marshal's Office of the Silesia Province as an Energy Project Evaluation Expert in the Department of the European Regional Development Fund, and is also the Councilor of the Zarzecze District of the City of Katowice.
