Jana Pieriegud, Ph.D. is a transport economist with a background in railway engineering with twenty years of experience in the R&D, market intelligence and strategic consultancy for business and public administration. She is a Head of the Department of Infrastructure and Mobility Studies at the Institute of Infrastructure, Transport and Mobility, SGH Warsaw School of Economics, as well as an independent expert for a number of institutions and research and innovation agencies in Poland and abroad, such as: National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR), European Commission’s Innovation and Network Executive Agency (INEA), Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). She participated as an external advisor in the preparation of expert opinions for the Polish government: Office for Rail Transport (UTK), Centre for EU transport projects (CUPT), NCBR, Ministry of Climate, Ministry of Digital Affairs; and for the European Commission – DG Regio.
Her areas of research include technological, economic, and environmental insights into the development of transport and logistics systems, TEN-T policy, rail freight corridors between Europe and Asia, intermodal transport, competition on the railway market, as well as smart cities and new mobility concepts (e-mobility, mobility-as-a-service, autonomous mobility, shared mobility).
She authored and co-authored in excess of 150 research papers and book chapters. She is a co-editor of monographs in the areas of the future of network industries, megatrends, digitalisation, e-mobility, urban mobility, and smart cities. She published a number of research reports: New Mobility Barometer 2019/20 (PSPA, SGH), Digital transformation of railways (SGH, Siemens, ProKolej, 2019), Analysis of the potential of the development of rail container transport market in Poland (EC, DG REGIO, 2019).
She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Shift2Rail JU, the Research Board for ProKolej Foundation, and the UIC Digital Platform Award’s Jury.
