Jacek Szołtysek is an ordinary professor, head of the Department of Social Logistics of the University of Economics in Katowice (Poland). His research interest has been focused on the potential of logistics in urban management, health care, humanitarian actions and other social logistics applications for more than 15 years. He initiated new research directions in the field of logistics, reverse logistics and a new area of logistics - social logistics. He is the author of 7 academic textbooks and 6 scientific monographs, 57 chapters in scientific monographs, over 130 scientific articles published in Poland and abroad. He is the scientific editor of 17 scientific papers.
He conducts lectures on city logistics in undergraduate, master's and doctoral studies, in Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Palestine, and postgraduate studies mostly in Poland on city matters. He presented his works at many national and international conferences. He is an expert in the field of the functioning of cities, in particular the smart city idea and ways to shape social capital and other resources on the way to smart city.
He has an extensive managerial experience - he performed the top management functions in banking, service and production companies - including those with foreign capital. He has been on foreign trainings in the Netherlands, Great Britain and the United States. He was an advisor to management boards of service companies operating on international markets. A member of several supervisory boards.
Published in the Polish Economic Publishing House in 2016, the monograph "City Logistics" is recommended as a textbook for higher education and for city and regional administrations.
His contribution to the development of urban pedestrian concept and the adaptation of cities to the needs of disabled people and seniors can inspire the creation of urban development strategies.
J. Szołtysek is often invited to the radio and television or public debate as an expert in the area of problems of functioning of cities and adapting cities to the needs of smart city.
He was awarded with the awards of the Minister of Science and Higher Education, the Association of Communications Engineers and Technicians of the Republic of Poland, the Rector of the University of Economics in Katowice, the Rector of the Warsaw School of Economics. His textbook: "The Basics of Urban Logistics. Second Edition expanded "in 2008 received the Journalist Special Award for the best academic textbook. His book “City logistics” published in 2016 was awarded the scientific prize of Polish Minister of Science and Higher Education in December 2017.
