Lukas Schifferle is a citizen of Döttingen in the canton of Aargau and grew up in the canton of Basel-Landschaft.

He studied Economics, Business Administration and Law at the University of Zurich. Afterwards he lectured business classes at a private economic university.

Before entering the Swiss Foreign Ministry in 2000, he spent 5 years working as Risk Manager and Corporate Customer Manager in the banking sector in Zurich.

He did his diplomatic training at the Swiss Permanent Mission to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium. Between 2003 and 2008 he worked as Counsellor for Culture and Science at the Swiss Embassy in Beijing, China. Upon his return to the Ministry in Berne, he mainly worked as an expert for security and peace issues. Between 2012 and 2016, he was Chief of Staff at the Human Security Division of the Foreign Ministry and oversaw its relations with the three International Geneva centers (DCAF, GCSP, GICHD).

Since 2016, he has been Director of the Section for Economy, Finance and Science at the Embassy of Switzerland in Warsaw, Poland.

Lukas Schifferle is married with one daughter. He is interested in music, digital transformation, environmental issues and history.
