Claude Turmes

Position: Member of the European Parliament

Claude Turmes is a Luxembourgish politician, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), and the spokesperson for energy policy of the Green Group in the European Parliament. Turmes has been a Member of the European Parliament since 1999. He has also recently been appointed to the Comité Accelerateur de la Transition Ecologique et Solidaire by French Minister for Ecology Nicolas Hulot to advise the French government on the implementation of the energy transition. In 2017, he has been appointed rapporteur of the European Parliament of the Regulation on the governance of the Energy Union. Previously, Turmes held the position of Vice President of the Green Group of the European Parliament. As rapporteur of the European Parliament, Claude has negotiated some of Europe’s key energy and climate policy reforms since 2000, such as the Internal Electricity market in 2003, the Directive on Renewable Energy Sources in 2008, and the Energy Efficiency Directive in 2012. He holds a degree in physical and sports education and a diploma in environmental sciences.
