Prof. dr. inż. Zbigniew Śmieszek, Managing Director of the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals in Gliwice. Expert in metallurgy, since 1975 Managing Director of the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals, except for the years 1991-1995 when he held the following functions: Director for Strategy and Cooperation at KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. and then Vice-President and President of KGHM Cuprum Wrocław.
For many years coordinates scientific programmes, including Strategic Programme of Cu, for 3 terms was a President of the Main Council of Polish Research and Development Units, currently he is a Honorary Vice-President of the Main Council of the Research Institutes.
Prof. Śmieszek is a President of Association of Polish Engineers and Technicians of Non-Ferrous Metals Industry, member of Economic Chamber of Non-Ferrous Metals and Recycling, member of Metallurgy Committee of Polish Academy of Science, and member of such international organizations as TMS, CIM,GDMB.
