Prince graduated from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Vienna, receiving the degree of Magister der Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften (M.A. in Business Administration).
In the years 1978-1987 Prince Michael worked at Nestle SA, initially in the department of verification/financial management/operational audit, in many countries of Europe and Africa, then in the board of a foreign subsidiary of Nestle. In 1987 he returned to Liechtenstein, where he assumed the position of managing director at Industrie- und Finanzkontor Vaduz, a leading company in the financial services sector. He is currently the chairman of the Industrie- und Finanzkontor.
In 2011 Prince Michael of Liechtenstein founded the Geopolitical Information Service AG (GIS, currently known as Geopolitical Intelligence Services AG), an information platform offering counseling and geopolitical intelligence. GIS provides in-depth analyses prepared by independent experts in geopolitics, economics, military affairs, security and energy issues.
In addition, Prince Michael is a board member of the Association of Professional Trustees in Liechtenstein, chairman of the European Center of Austrian Economics Foundation Vaduz, as well as a member of the board of directors of the Institut de Recherches Économiques et Fiscales (IREF).
The roots of the princely family of Liechtenstein go back to the twelfth century. The Liechtensteins are one of the richest families in Europe and currently reigning Hans-Adam II is one of the richest monarchs in the world.
