Jacek Jankowski
Position: Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Ethiopia
Jacek Jankowski has been serving since November 2012 in Addis Ababa as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Ethiopia, Djibouti and South Sudan as well as the Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. In January 2013, he established on behalf of Poland diplomatic relations with a newly created state: South Sudan. Jacek Jankowski actively implements the priorities of the Polish foreign policy towards the African continent as well as effectively supports political, economic, social and cultural co-operation with his partner countries.
He graduated from the Warsaw University (MA in Political Science), the Warsaw School of Economics (MA in Finance and Banking) and the Columbia University in the New York City (MA in International Relations). He received a scholarship by the World Bank where he subsequently worked as a consultant for development aid in Africa, mainly in the fields of energy and environmental protection.
Since 1994, he has been a civil servant in Polish governmental institutions. As a national expert in the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels, he supported the ratification process of the Energy Charter Treaty in several countries. In the Chancellery of the Prime Minister he was in charge of media relations.
Since 2001 he has been working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2005-2012 served as a diplomat in Brussels in the Permanent Representation of Poland to the European Union. He participated – as a Polish representative in the Council of the EU – in developing the Joint Africa – EU Strategy and was responsible for the EU relations with countries of the Latin America. During the Polish Presidency in the Council of the EU, he chaired regular meetings of the Member States in the Foreign Relations Councellor Group (RELEX).
In November 2014 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Grzegorz Schetyna honoured Ambassador Jacek Jankowski with the Amicus Oeconomiae Prize. The prize is a form of appreciation of Ambassador’s achievements for supporting and protecting the Polish economic interest on foreign markets. In July 2015 Janusz Piechociński, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, awarded to Ambassador Jacek Jankowski the Badge of Honour of Merit for the Economic Development of the Republic of Poland.
